Why Men Too Need Engagement Rings?

Recently some scientists released a study that said during an average day, the average man says two thousand words while the average woman says seven thousand. I'm not really sure what kinds of scientists study such things and why they think it's important, but they did it anyway. The upshot of it all was a debate over why women talk so much or men talk so little. Men who came to their own defense said it was because men know exactly what to say and how to say it so they don't need that many words. Well, being a man, I know this isn't true. That is one of the reasons engagement rings are so important. Men may think they know what to say, but when they actually go to say it, it rarely comes out right. Even if it does, they usually say it in such a convoluted way that it makes too little sense to be understood. I'm not going to talk about that mythical time when they say precisely what it means and it is perfectly clear and logical because, much like the Loch Ness Monster and the lost city of Atlantis, I don't believe that it exists. Men actually do think before they speak. It's just that somewhere between the brain and the mouth, signals get crossed and the end result is somebody storming away and the man standing there with a dumb look on his face saying "What did I do now?"

The one advantage to only saying a couple thousand words a day means that men do realize sometimes silence is better and that there are better ways to get your point across than speaking. It is at moments like these that a man's best friend is his professional jeweler. If men have learned anything (and even that is debatable) it is that all the flowery language in the world is no match for a beautiful piece of fine jewelry. They could quote from the greatest love poems of all times or a Bridget Jones movie, but it still won't do them half as good as going out and finding a nice affordable necklace or pair of earrings. That brings us back to the engagement. Men will struggle to find the right words. They will Google "proposals" and try to emulate what they find. They will make elaborate arrangements for the presentation of the question. Most of them will likely flail. It doesn't matter, though, because if the right engagement rings are there at the time, a man will say it best when he says nothing at all.
